Knights v Durham

After a more tame night in Halifax where we got some much needed sleep, we awoke at the Premier Inn and left by checkout time of 12h00. We needed to get to Durham, which is about a 2 hour drive along the A1, pretty much travelling directly north. Dan was is one of his last days of quarantine in the Vauxhall and the rest of the team drove together. We got to the courts in the afternoon and met Dave Geldert who had put the evening together, before setting out for a shopping mall to look around before our fixture.

Knights v David Lloyd, Chorley

On Friday the 2nd of January we drove from Conwy in North Wales to David Lloyd in Chorley, near Manchester. We were immediately impressed by the professional feel of the club, where Laura Massaro (currently 3rd in the world with a highest wsa ranking of 2 and many world titles) bases herself along with her husband, Daniel Massaro, and her brother who is the head coach, Chris Lengthorn.. There are indoor tennis courts which the guys had a go on, 3 glass-back squash courts, spa and pool facilities and a restaurant serving some much needed health foods.

The team awoke in the Sumner's home and Lisa Sumner brought us back to Fort Stamford for breakfast where we met back up with Kyle and Charl who had stayed at Duncan's house. We used the gym's spa facilities to freshen up once again before our longest trip on the road so far, from Plymouth to Conwy in North Wales on New Years Eve.

Knights v Torquay

After a solid 4-1 win against Devon & Exeter we did the 40 minute drive down to Torquay on the coastline. We got to town early and had some time to stroll around, eventually settling for lunch at Lounge Cafe, just opposite the beachfront. The sun was out so we sat outside for a bit, as it was still barely 5 degrees! After a burger and smoothie it was time to head to the courts and get down to business

Knights v Devon & Exeter

We all met up in the afternoon of the 28th in Wokingham where Mike was staying before our 3 hour drive to Devon & Exeter. The roads were all frosted over and quite a bit of traffic meant we needed to leave with some spare time to allow for any delays. We passed Stonehenge along the way and snapped some photos from the cars but no time to stop!

Knights v Surrey Sports Park

We got off to a late start on Tuesday morning, with just one more match that evening before our Christmas break. We were playing in Guilford at Surrey Sports Park against a team headed by Jesse Engelbrecht, the South African who now runs all the squash at this modern club and was in the world top 30 in his hey-day. After some recuperation, we all me up at the Shean's home, the guys were all keen to try some more of the marvellous coffee, before we piled into the Peaugot to Guilford.

Knights v Caversham

After our night out in Windsor, we checked out of Skyways just in time for the 11 o'clock deadline and made our way to Joe Richardson's home outside Basingstoke for lunch. Maggie Richardson prepared a lovely beef stew for us and we used the time before our 4pm fixture to sort out arrangements during our 5-day Christmas break, Skype home and relax.

Knights v Oxfordshire

Following a rough night with little sleep, the Knight's high-tailed it to John and Robyn Shean's wonderful home in Wokingham. Robyn must have had some secret elves working in her home because within minutes of our arrival she had cooked up a full english breakfast along with cereals and the best coffee we had tasted in England so far!
