Knights v Bishops Stortford

After our evening in Lexden we caught a few extra hours of sleep at the Selby's before being treated to a filling breakfast and some much needed coffee from Karen. She also gave us a set of 'idiot proof' directions for us to get to the courts in Bishops Stortford, via an Asda petrol station. The petrol stations here compete on price and there are substantial differences between service station prices, so it's worth it for us to find the cheaper ones like Asda and avoid those off the motorway! On Karen's advice, we stopped at the Tip Tree jam factory store

Knights v Lexden

After our breakfast in Bury St Edmunds, we drove to the town of Colchester to play against Lexden Squash Club. We checked in at the courts and met Paul Allen, the younger brother of Mark Allen who played and coached in Cape Town and is now coaching in America. Paul is a former British junior champion and captain himself. We were to play at 7:30 pm so had some time to go into Colchester Town and have a look around.

Knights v Moreton Hall

The next day we had a long 4 hour drive ahead of us from Winchester to Bury St Edmunds. After a late(ish) start to the trip we got to the courts and after a warm up we went on with Charl going up 3-0 against Martin Evans and Dan losing in the 5th to James Bird.

Knights v Winchester

The team enjoyed our last buffet breakfast at the Pomme d'or before making our way to the airport to fly back to Southampton. We didn't pay for our luggage on the way to Guernsey with the same company we were using for the return, but they charged us £40 per bag going back. Mike managed to talk them down to £30 but we still felt a bit hard done by.

Knights v Jersey

After a good rest in the morning, the team met up at the airport for our 6 minute flight to Jersey, which you can see from Guernsey. Upon arriving at a deserted airport we found the only check - in lady who informed us that there was no 12h00 flight and that the next flight was at 17h25! Mike was so sure that he got the time right that he got out his phone and showed the lady. She took one look and said, "this is by boat..."

Knights v Middleton

After the Isle of Wight we ferried to Southampton and had some hours to kill. We wondered around and made a stop at the museum which had exibits of the First World War, Southampton history and the history of the Titanic, although Stef found the cafeteria more enthralling.

Knights v Isle of Wight

Following our Cardiff fixture, we got ourselves on the road in a hurry, which was becoming the norm, back to the Richardson's in Basingstoke. We left Wales around 09:00, needing a quick turnaround at Joe's home to pack kit for the next leg of the tour to the Isle of Wight, Middleton, Guernsey and Jersey. Having not written down the exact address but having directions out of the Richardson's home to Cardiff on a sheet of paper, we thought we would be able to navigate our way straight back to the house by following the directions in reverse, the Knights being smart university students and all.

Knights v Cardiff

On Tuesday morning we moved out of our London apartment and took the train to Joe Richardson's lovely home in Basingstoke out in the British countryside. Joe and Maggie met us at the station and took us to the car rental store where we picked up our transport for the rest of the tour, a Peugeot 206 hatchback and a Vauxhall Corsa.

Knights v Bexley

Following a much needed rest day, we awoke on Monday morning refreshed and ready for the week which sees us travelling to Bexley, Cardiff, Isle of Wight, Middleton, Guernsey and Jersey. It's our first week away from London and on the road and we're excited to explore the countryside!
