Knights v Devon & Exeter

After our 5 day Christmas break from the 23rd to the 27th we were back on the tour with 3 consecutive matches until an off day on the 31st and then 13 straight matches from the 1st of January 2015!

A quick summary of the 5 day break:

The team went our separate ways, probably a good thing after seeing so much of each other previously... Michael stayed with family, the Sheans and the Hackings, played a round of winter golf and went to the Emirates to watch his side Arsenal defeat QPR 2-1! Kyle went to his uncle in Woking and also went to watch the Gunners with Mike. Stef went all the way to Amsterdam from the 24th until the 26th for Christmas with friends, then stayed with Dan and Charl who were just outside Banbury with Dan's brother and family for the festive break. We all had a great time and nice break from the game before beginning the second half of the tour.

We all met up in the afternoon of the 28th in Wokingham where Mike was staying before our 3 hour drive to Devon & Exeter. The roads were all frosted over and quite a bit of traffic meant we needed to leave with some spare time to allow for any delays. We passed Stonehenge along the way and snapped some photos from the cars but no time to stop!

We made it to the squash club in good time and Dan went on first at number 5 against Matt Baker at half past 6. The break certainly seemed to slow Dan's reactions and speed and after winning the first game, went down 3-1 with a disappointing start to the next part of the tour. Kyle was on next at number 1 and also seemed to be a bit off, finding himself 2-0 down and 10-4 down in the 3rd, but in true Knights style he then put his foot down and got the game together, clawing his way top win the 3rd, the 4th and the 5th with a 17-15 win! Mike won in 4 next door against a hard hitting player while Stef got a great win against 'the magician' Mike Gregory. Charl went on and blitzed his opponent in about 15 minutes to seal a great 4-1 win against Devon & Exeter!

After the fixture we had a great time with the lads from D&E at the club bar, with no one being afraid of a drink or 2. Mike and Kyle were a bit rusty on our 5 golden rules of safe drinking and got themselves into a bit of trouble with their beers... We then went to a local Indian restaurant for a full course meal of zesty indian cuisine. The food was properly hot and had the boys sweating! Our opponents generously took care of all the bills for the evening and we really appreciate the efforts they made for us. Quite a lot of banter was going around the table, Luke and Dan were getting it after Luke's loss from 2-0 up and 10-4 up and Dan for his below-par performance. Afterwards, Kyle and Dan were hosted by Matt. Mike, Stef and Charl were hosted by Adrian, and on the way home their driver, Mike Gregory, was pulled over by the police and breathalyzed after the police had seen him hobbling out of the restaurant with a strained calf and thought he was drunk! He passed the breathalyser test and luckily the guys made it home!

The next morning we all got a full english breakfast and coffee compliments of the club. We then headed to the town in Exeter for some sight seeing. Thanks to all at Devon & Exeter for having us, we thoroughly enjoyed the evening with a top bunch of guys...
